How to Be Found by Recruiters on LinkedIn

LinkedIn has been changing the recruiting industry. Whether you are passively or actively looking for a job, this is a great social platform for recruiters to find you. Well, that is if they can find you. 

To ensure that you are using LinkedIn to the fullest, be sure to follow these tips:

1. Think Strategy 

First, do your research; whether it’s checking out people’s profiles that have similar professions, following companies that interest you, or sending invites to new contacts, it’s important to do all of the following when it comes to creating your strategy. Your strategy should involve building a solid network along the way. Your network will help you to improve your skillset, stay on top of industry trends, and meet mentors who can help you gain access to resources.

2. Show Up In Searches

Make sure that your resume is up to date on your profile. We recommend adding all of your skills, software, industries, and education or certifications to your profile. These things are important because recruiters use them as keywords when they are searching for potential candidates. A good rule of thumb is to ensure that all of your skills and experiences align. 3. Be “Clickable”

First impressions mean everything. Especially, now that social media has taken on such an important role in promoting our professional experiences and skills. Having an eye-catching headshot is more important than ever. Unfortunately, it is true that most people will make all kinds of judgments about you within the first few seconds of looking at your profile picture. So, you don’t want to miss this opportunity to make a good first impression on a recruiter or potential employer.

4. Show off Your Portfolio

If you are any type of creative, you know how important it is to have an excellent portfolio. But, more importantly, recruiters need to be able to quickly spot it on your profile. To ensure that your link is easily seen, insert your portfolio link within your contact information. Your contact information is located at the top of your profile near your professional summary. 

5. Stay Active

Do your research and be sure to skim through a company’s profile page before applying to a position. For example, many organizations maintain their own LinkedIn pages where they can share content and showcase their culture. If the company is doing a fantastic job at this, they will be able to show you who they are all about within their profile page. This is a great way for you to stay connected and engaged with companies that you could see yourself working for in the future. 

6. Market your Skills & Experiences

Ask people to endorse your skills and write recommendations for you to add credibility. Your skills can be endorsed as easy as just one click. Recommendations, on the other hand, are written reviews from someone you either worked with or the previous employer. These are basically “mini” letter of recommendations that you can showcase right on your profile page for future employers or recruiters to see.

7. Turn your Signal “ON” 

Lastly, if you are currently unemployed, a great way to let recruiters know that you are open to new opportunities is by simply turning your signal on. Click on the “Career Interests” button located under the “Job” tab on your LinkedIn profile. Simply turn the tab “on” and along the way, fill out your information regarding what type of positions you are looking for, where you are at in your search, and what job titles you are open too.
